Sanity Savers is a new series featuring quick tips & tricks and products that we use to make our lives easier.  Easy-to-implement, simple, and fast, these ideas and products help our household run smoothly.

My kids love their loveys.  We introduced them around 6-7 months for each child, in an attempt to teach them how to self-soothe.  It worked, but for my oldest, and now again for my youngest, their method of self-soothing left a little bit to be desired.

The picture to the left is a photo of how my oldest son liked to sleep for most of his first year.  It’s a terrible quality picture of the video monitor screen, but I had to include it.  In case you can’t tell, he’s lying on his back, with his lovey draped across the front of his face.  He would rub “Bunny” across his face, then leave her there and go to sleep!  This was not a rare occurrence, it was how he soothed himself to sleep nearly every night.

Needless to say, as a first time Mom, this made me incredibly anxious.  I would either sneak in his room to remove the lovey and risk waking him up, or be worried that he was going to suffocate in the middle of the night.

This time around, I did a little bit of research and found breathable loveys.  We have these ones, and we absolutely love them!  They’re made out of breathable muslin, with a satin trim around the edge.  My daughter, much like my oldest son, loves to sleep with these draped across her face.  However, with these I don’t have to worry about whether or not she’s able to breathe through it (ok, who am I kidding, I still worry, but much, much less!).  Plus, they come in a pack of two, so I always have a backup .  If you’re a new Mom or Mom-to-be, looking to buy a lovey for your little one, I highly recommend checking out breathable loveys, so you have one less thing to worry about!

Do you have any must-have products that you use or used to help your little one sleep?
