Motherhood

Being a Mom is the most rewarding – and most difficult – experience I’ve ever had.  Here, you’ll find articles about all things motherhood-related – from practical advice on managing the invisible mental load of motherhood, to support and encouragement to help you survive those inevitable tough days.

You’ll find a number of articles about balance – an issue that so many of us struggle with.  Whether we’re searching for the right balance between work and family, or simply trying to maximize our time with our kids, it seems there are never enough hours in the day to do it all.

I’m a big believer in honesty – in sharing the good and the bad about motherhood.  Let’s laugh at those parenting experiences we could have never prepared for, and celebrate each unique stage of motherhood.  My goal is to help create the village that so many of us are lacking.

Some of my most popular posts on motherhood include:

Finding Balance as a Mom

Finding Balance as a Mom

Today I wanted to get a little more personal, and talk about an issue that I know so many of us struggle with – balance.  Whether you’re a working mom, a stay-at-home mom, a work-at-home mom, or some combination of the above, finding the right […]

Goodbye to the Baby Years

Goodbye to the Baby Years

My baby – my third baby, my last baby – is about to turn one. I’m done having babies, and my youngest is quickly turning into a toddler. This, as you may expect, is sending me on a rollercoaster of emotions. My life for the […]

Some Days Are Hard

Some Days Are Hard

Today was hard.  It was one of those days where I felt like I spent the entire day on a treadmill – going nowhere and trying my hardest to keep up. Nothing terrible happened.  It was just relentless, in the way that only parenting can […]

How to Help a New Mom: 9 Rules to Follow

How to Help a New Mom: 9 Rules to Follow

I recently read an article on Scary Mommy about how to really help a new mom. The premise of the article was that she doesn’t need more muffins and onesies.  Instead, clean her house, blow dry her hair, and basically do everything that she hasn’t been […]

Starting Childcare: Tips to Make it Easier

Starting Childcare: Tips to Make it Easier

Transitioning your child into daycare, whether you do it at 12 weeks, 12 months, or 3 years, is hard. I’ve done it twice, and will be doing it with my third child shortly.  Even though I’ve been down this path before, it doesn’t make it […]

Nobody Told Me

Nobody Told Me

When you’re pregnant, or you have babies or young children, it seems like you’re a beacon for unsolicited advice.  Despite this, there so many things about motherhood that I wasn’t prepared for.  I don’t think I could have been – there are certain things that […]

The Reality of Being a Working Mom

The Reality of Being a Working Mom

I’ve been a working Mom and I’ve been a quasi-stay-at-home Mom (I’m in Canada and have three kids, which means I’ve had three year-long maternity leaves).  Both can be wonderful, and both can be difficult – in very different ways. Being a working mom comes […]

The Myth of Having It All

The Myth of Having It All

As featured on:   “The obligation for working mothers is a very precise one: the feeling that one ought to work as if one did not have children, while raising one’s children as if one did not have a job” – Annabel Crabb Our mothers […]

12 Practical Tips to Help You to Thrive as an Introverted Parent

12 Practical Tips to Help You to Thrive as an Introverted Parent

I’m an introvert.  Nothing has driven home the truth of that statement like parenting young children.  Young kids, as we all know, talk, move, and just need constantly.  The relentlessness of parenting can make me feel like I can’t even finish a thought, let alone grab […]

You Don’t Need to Cherish Every Moment of Motherhood

You Don’t Need to Cherish Every Moment of Motherhood

If you have young children, and spend any time in grocery stores, malls, or on social media, you’ve probably heard some variation of, “Cherish these years, they go by so fast!”  If you’re anything like me, you probably smile and respond politely, but the question […]
